National Specialty Raffles

First of all, many thanks to all of you who supported our National Specialty Raffle and the 50-50 Raffle by buying and selling the tickets that were mailed out to you. We were thrilled at the number of tickets sold at the end of the day and are really appreciative of your efforts. Our funds were significantly boosted by the income generated by these two Raffles.

I’d also like to thank our generous sponsors who donated the lovely prizes for the National Specialty Raffle - Kathy Norris and Helmut Erhardt of The Hunting Horn Jewelers, W.R. (Bill) Van Wyck - Duurstede and Pat Volney - Lochiel Gordons.

Congratulations to our Winners! The National Specialty Raffle was won by Sante Colonnello, with Margaret Ekosky winning 2nd prize and Judith Brown the 3rd prize. Sante and Margaret decided to swap their prizes so Margaret ended up with the gorgeous earrings and Sante, to his delight, took home the copy of the Gordon Setter Review!
The 50-50 Raffle (which was held in conjunction with the Irish Setter Club) was won by Linda Haven of Middleton, Nova Scotia. She was thrilled to bits with her win as she had travelled to Winnipeg from Nova Scotia to show her ML Dachshunds and this helped to pay for her trip out west. She told me that she always likes to support Breed Clubs as she believes that if we don’t support each other , none of us will be able to hold Specialties and other major events. She was just so happy that she was able to be there and also watch our Setter Specialties!

For every $10 donation received towards the Trophy /National Specialty Fund a ticket was entered in the Donor’s name in the Pencil Portrait draw. This prize was donated by talented artist Gary Tucker of Oakisle Irish and Gordon Setters.
The winner of the hand drawn portrait of the dog of her choice is Pat Volney.

National Specialty Update

The GSCC National Specialty takes place August 8, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba in conjunction with the Manitoba Canine Association all breed shows. Go to the MCA website: http://www.manitoba-canine.ca/ for entry forms, camping and hotel information. Early Bird entry deadline is Wednesday, July 8th and the final closing date for entries is Wednesday, July 15th. We hope you can join us!

RECENT ADOPTIONS!!

"Gordon", the young lad in the Shelter in Newfoundland has been adopted!! He now lives in New Brunswick with his new family and by all accounts is a very happy boy!

"Maeve" has been adopted - wonderful news! (An 11 month old female Gordon Setter in NE Ontario is looking for her forever home.......) The last of the four Montreal Shelter puppies has a new lease on life.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

"Dylan" is a wonderful older neutered Gordon Setter of approx. 12 1/2 years living in Nova Scotia. His family is being transferred to a location which does not allow dogs. He is a true couch potato who is happiest lying in front of the fire, cuddling up to a loved one or sleeping under a tree in the backyard orchard. He will joyfully tag along for a country stroll. Overall he is in very good health. He would make a wonderful companion for an older or sedate couple. He is very good around other non-aggressive dogs but is afraid of cats. He is very gentle and easy to walk on leash and has always been very gentle around children. He has not been brought up with toddlers or rambunctious children though so would probably be nervous and try to avoid them if they made loud noised or played rough with him.

"Spencer" is a 9 year old male Gordon Setter cross Flat Coat Retriever. He is in the Collingwood area of Ontario. For more information please click on the petfinder link above.
